Artist's Statement

I am fascinated by the human spirit. I believe at our core we are more similar than different. Universal challenges, struggles, ironies and joys are the common thread life presents to us. Through the human form, I attempt to reveal a state of mind throughout our ever-changing world and life using using shape, proportion and common objects.

Artist's Biography

As a native of Chicago I grew up amidst vast variations in architecture, seasons and cultures. It afforded me time to notice the similarities and patterns in those variations. On a bus or train, on a routine commute, my appreciation of form and art was awakened. The extreme and uncommon form found in a city scape inspired me to apply those principles to my figurative sculptures.

The study of life drawing, graphic design and illustration expanded my awareness of what art meant to me. I began to explore the possibilities and challenges of art through painting and graphic design. A move to London cemented the principles I developed earlier. While drawing and painting gave me eye opening views of the world and myself, it didn't allow me to convey a three-dimensional world.

My sculpture journey began in 2000 in Austin. It was an instant satisfaction in that it was art that could rotate in my hand and not just in my mind. Sculpture felt like the tool I was searching for and its challenges continue to delight.
